Most recently, he served as Senior Advisor for Political Engagement to President Joe Biden. In this capacity he was one of the top political advisors to the President and White House Senior Staff, responsible for building coalitions and maintaining relationships with state and local elected officials, Members of Congress, and high-level political stakeholders in all 50 states. He was previously the Deputy National Political Director on Joe Biden's historic 2020 Presidential campaign, and has held leadership roles with Hillary for America, Obama for America, and the Democratic National committee.
A Capitol Hill veteran, John was Chief of Staff to Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA) where he helped manage the Congressman's ascent to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. He also served as a policy aide to Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), where he worked on the Congressman's successful bid to lead the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He is known for his kitchen-cabinet advice to members of Congress from the Democratic party's centrist flank. During the 2021 Presidential Transition, John worked on the Biden-Harris Legislative Affairs team supporting confirmations of the President-elect's nominees and his early legislative agenda.
A New Jersey native, he is a graduate of the Catholic University of America where he studied Politics and Theology. He remains active in a number of causes related to Irish-America, and is a frequent media resource and thought-leader on the Democratic party.
